Features and How To

Multiple profile support is easy to add for Firefox Portable, Thunderbird Portable and Sunbird Portable on your USB flash drive or your local PC. After installing the PortableApps.com Platform to the root of your drive and installing Firefox, Thunderbird and/or Sunbird, you just need to install the appropriate 2nd profile app(s) to the same location. They're small (adding under 200K to the profile itself) and quick to install. The full details are included in each apps' support topic:

want de Wininizio PenSuite uit Italië is een flinke verzameling Engelstalige freeware en Open Source die geïnstalleerd kan worden op en draaien vanaf een USB-stick.

Je hoeft in principe natuurlijk niet een heel pakket te downloaden, maar kunt programma's naar keuze kiezen via de home pages van de verschillende ontwikkelaars!

Werken op een stickie!

Nee, die om op te roken bedoel ik niet, hoewel dat mogelijk best gezellig en plezierig werken is ;-)
Ik wil het even hebben over USB-sticks en de mogelijkheid om daar programma's op te draaien.
Reuze makkelijk voor alle mensen die veel digitaal op sjouw zijn en dan gewoon hun favoriete programma's en alle documenten op zo'n stick mee kunnen nemen.
Meestal nestelen applicaties zich in Windows of ze zijn er in ieder geval zo afhankelijk van dat ze niet op een los kaartje of stick willen draaien. Maar daar is iets op gevonden.
Op de eerste plaats een nieuw protocol genaamd U3 voor Windows XP, dat toegepast wordt op speciale USB-sticks en waarvoor aparte programmatuur geschreven wordt. De U3-sticks zijn duurder dan de gewone USB-exemplaren en er zijn zowel gratis als commerciële toepassingen beschikbaar.
Een andere mogelijkheid is om bestaande programma's aan passen zodat ze op een standaard USB-stick, losse harde schijf, kaart, Ipod of MP3-speler kunnen draaien.
Dit worden Portable Applications, draagbare programma's, genoemd.
En daar kan iedereen die zo'n losse gegevensdrager bezit mee aan de slag want er is een ruime keuze aan Open Source en gratis te gebruiken programma's beschikbaar.
Je kunt zelfs een mooie suite met OpenOffice.org, Mozilla surfen en mail, antivirusscanner, een universele messenger en Persoonlijke Infomatie Manager downloaden.
Maar natuurlijk ook een sofwaremix naar eigen keuze samenstellen.
Erg leuk om mee te spelen en ideaal als je veel onderweg bent of op verschillende locaties en computers werkt.
