Nieuwe generatie Antimalware met VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware De naam van dit nieuwe antimalwareproduct van Sunbelt doet denken aan het Engelse woord Viper, een giftige addersoort. En dat klopt eigenlijk prima want VIPRE bijt al het digitale ongedierte dood dat je computer binnen probeert te kruipen! De naam staat voor Virus Intrusion Protection Remediation Engine. Een mond vol Engels en het klinkt indrukwekkend, maar wat biedt het? Simpel gezegd een zeer doeltreffende en snelle combinatie van Antivirus, Antispyware, Anti-adware en Antirootkit in een geheel nieuw product. De 'giftand' van VIPRE is Active Protection dat op de achtergrond en diep in de kern van Windows alles in de gaten houdt en malware meteen stopt voordat deze in actie kan komen. VIPRE gebruikt hiervoor drie technieken: een virusdatabase, analyse op het gedrag en heuristische analyse die een bestand of data analyseert op karakteristieken. Rootkits worden daarna uitgeschakeld door FirstScan, een speciale procedure die voor het opstarten van Windows in actie komt. Spyware wordt herkend en geneutraliseerd door het geïntegreerde CounterSpy, een bekend product van Sunbelt. ThreatNet verbindt gebruikers van Vipre en CounterSpy met een antimalware-netwerk. Maar ook al het emailverkeer wordt direct onder de loep genomen in Outlook (Express) en Windows Mail. VIPRE scant ook email via POP3 en SMTP, ongeacht de gebruikte cliënt. Kortom uitgebreide bescherming in een overzichtelijk programma. Alleen een firewall ontbreekt, maar daarvoor kun je Sunbelt's Personal Firewall gebruiken, die ook in een gratis versie beschikbaar is. In de toekomst wordt de firewall trouwens in VIPRE ingebouwd, zoals nu al met CounterSpy het geval is. De bewering dat VIPRE geen invloed heeft op je PC klopte overigens niet op mijn testsysteem. Er is wel degelijk sprake van opstartvertraging, maar dat is bij de meest antimalwareproducten het geval. Sommige programma's starten ook wat trager. Scannen gaat in ieder geval wel lekker snel! Mogelijk zullen dit soort zaken tijdens de verdere ontwikkeling van VIPRE verbeterd worden! De (email)support is over het algemeen snel en adequaat en je kunt als gebruiker tevens prima hulp en informatie krijgen via Get Satisfaction. De prijsstelling van VIPRE is zeer concurrerend!
